BIHAR DIWAS | 22nd MARCH

Bihar Diwas is an annual celebration that commemorates the formation of the state of Bihar on March 22, 1912. The day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across the state of Bihar, as well as by the Bihari diaspora around the world. The occasion is marked by various cultural and social programs, parades, exhibitions, and seminars, all aimed at promoting the rich heritage and culture of Bihar.

Bihar has a long and fascinating history, which stretches back to ancient times. The region was a center of power during the Mauryan and Gupta empires, and has been home to several important centers of learning, including Nalanda and Vikramshila Universities, which were among the oldest universities in the world. Bihar has also been a crucible of religious and spiritual traditions, with Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism all having deep roots in the region.

In more recent times, Bihar has been associated with poverty, backwardness, and social strife. However, in recent years, the state has witnessed a remarkable turnaround, with improved governance, infrastructure, and economic growth. The Bihar government has launched several innovative schemes and initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive growth and development, such as the Bihar Vikas Mission, which aims to transform the state into a prosperous and vibrant economy.

Bihar Diwas provides an opportunity to showcase the rich cultural and social heritage of Bihar, as well as the progress that the state has made in recent years. The celebrations are marked by a range of cultural programs, including folk dances, music, and theater performances, which highlight the unique cultural traditions of Bihar. The occasion is also marked by exhibitions, seminars, and conferences, which provide a platform for discussion and debate on issues related to the state's development and progress.

Bihar Diwas is also an occasion to honor the contributions of eminent Biharis to various fields, such as literature, arts, science, and sports. The state government confers various awards and honors to outstanding Biharis who have made a significant impact in their respective fields, thereby encouraging others to excel and contribute to the growth and development of Bihar.

JHUNJHUNWALA KI HAVELI: A SYNERGY OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE

One of them is "Rai Surajmal Jhunjhunwala ki haveli" which is also commonly known as "Tilha Dharamshala". The elegant structure built in 1909 with eye- catching carvings, beautiful human figured cornices,  decorative parapets with mouldings and carvings is an excellent example of Indo-Islamic architecture with colonial influence. In its construction, Rai Surajmal Prasad Jhunjhunwala Bahadur, the grandson of Seth Ramcharan Das ji and great-grandson of Tuganramji, resident of Ravetri Rajputana located in Chidwa area, played the main role.
